How to Troubleshoot "Error occurred at line 2. Reason: Automation error classfactory cannot supply requested class." error message
SYMPTOMS When opening Microsoft Outlook after installing a Sperry Software add-in, you may see this message:
Error occurred at line 2. Reason: Automation error Classfactory cannot supply requested class.
CAUSE This error appears for two possible reasons:
1. There were older (previously purchased) add-ins installed before installing a newly purchased add-in.
2. While upgrading to a newer version of the add-in, the old add-in was not uninstalled completely. This usually happens when Outlook is still running in the background during the uninstall.
RESOLUTION A clean re-install will fix this issue. To perform a clean re-install, follow these instructions:
Close Outlook Click Ctl-alt-del and select Task Manager. Go to the processes tab and make sure that OUTLOOK.EXE and WINWORD.EXE are not running.If they are, end them.
Go to Start…Control Panel…Add/Remove Programs.Uninstall the Sperry add-in.
After the uninstall, again go to task manager and make sure that OUTLOOK.EXE and WINWORD are not running.
Repeat the above steps for each Sperry Software add-in installed.
Open Outlook and make sure the error is still not occurring.. if it is, the add-ins are still installed.
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files and delete the Sperry Software folder. If you get an error deleting this folder, then make sure that OUTLOOK.EXE and WINWORD are closed and try again. If this folder will not delete you will not be able to complete the clean install.
