How to Troubleshoot the Substitution not working with Send Individually
SYMPTOMS When using the send individually add-in, the substitution is not working correctly. When using the "First Name" substitution, it always appears as blank. When using the "Last Name" substitution, it always appears as blank.
CAUSE Substitution for First Name and Last Name are only supported when sending to contacts. If the recipients are added using the "To" button or are made up of a Distribution List, this substitution is not supported. Distribution Lists do not contain individual First or Last name fields, only a "Full Name" field.
RESOLUTION Follow these steps to use First or Last name substitution with Contacts:
Click the Contacts view in Outlook. Select the contacts that you want to send the email to. (Use the ctrl key to select more than one contact). Click the "Send Individually to Contacts" button. When the new email window pops up, fill out the email as one normally would. (Notice that the "To" line will say "Send Individually to Multiple Recipients"). When ready to send, click the "Send Individually" button.
