Subject: Outlook Add-In Newsletter for 2006, Vol 1

Welcome to the 1st Quarter 2006 edition of the Sperry Software Outlook add-in newsletter!

We switched our newsletter naming convention to go from season based to Volume/Issue
based out of respect for our readers in the southern hemisphere of the world. To
them, having a newsletter that said "Fall/Winter 2005" didn't make sense when it
was springtime and getting warm, and we agree.

*** Our Newest Add-in: Mobile Email Redirect ***

Sperry Software is pleased to announce the release of our 32nd Outlook add-in,
Mobile Email Redirect. This add-in sends an email to your email capable cell
phone, pager or PDA (or any email address for that matter). It automatically
compresses plain text based messages by (optionally) removing vowels, removing
extra spaces, and making basic instant messaging
substitutions (e.g., "are you for real?" with "R U 4 real?"). Plus, it
knows when you're away from you're desk and can start redirecting automatically.
It's perfect for getting your Outlook emails while you're away from your desk.

Question: What's the difference between forwarding and redirecting email messages?
Answer: Forward: Shows the message coming from you and states it is being forwarded.
If the receiver replys to it, it will reply to you. Redirect:
Leaves the message intact, when the receiver gets it, it looks as though it came
from the original sender, not from you who forwarded it. If the receiver replies
to it, it will reply to the original sender (not to you.)

Question: How does the add-in know when to redirect emails?
Answer: There's a Send as redirected message toolbar button that redirects already
received email messages (Manual Mode) and a "redirect incoming emails" mode that
redirects emails as they arrive (Automatic Mode). Like all add-ins, the Automatic
Mode needs Outlook to be up and running in order to redirect emails to your phone,
pager, Blackberry, Palm or Pocket PC device.

We'd like to thank all the people who acted as beta testers for this release.
If you were a beta tester, we have sent out your free permanent registration keys.
Some of you were over quota, and we couldn't reach you.
If you haven't received yours, please email us at [email protected] so
we can get your keys to you and tell you about Attachment Save, an add-in that
greatly reduces the problem of being over quota. ;)

*** Vcard Converter Upgraded ***

Vcard Converter has been recently upgraded. You probably already know that Outlook
already has the ability to import and export vcard files, but only one at a time.
With this add-in's new features you can now import or export a file containing a single
vcard entry or multiple entries. You can also export to a single file or have one vcard
file per contact. This facility makes it simple to transfer contacts between any PDA or
phone that accepts a vcard (like an Apple iPod).

In addition to this, the add-in has direct underlying support for VCard spec 3.0;
this means that your categories can now import and export more information (like
categories) directly. It also means that the newest version of the add-in is faster
than ever before. It can convert thousands of contacts (from any Outlook or Exchange
public folder) in seconds. You can find out more at
http://www.SperrySoftware.com/Outlook/VCard-Converter.asp.

*** Did You Know? Attachment Forget-Me-Not ***

Last newsletter we had an article on how our add-ins (the ones that accept time
and date fields) allow you to type directly into the text boxes and how you aren't
limited to the formats shown.

As a follow up to that article, we'd like to make sure that you're also aware that
you can do the same thing for snooze times in alarms that popup in Outlook. You
can just type in "3 hours" or "3 days" into the snooze textbox (or any other
reasonable value - and don't worry Outlook will tell you if it doesn't understand
you). For those of you who own our Follow Up Reminders, it's snooze option does
the same thing.

On to Attachment Forget-Me-Not. It now has an option to warn you when you have a
blank subject line. Why is this necessary? Because there's a higher likelihood
that spam filters will mark your email as spam. Plus, it's just not nice to send
emails with no subject - how is your recipient supposed to know how to classify the
email? Maybe this will force them to open the email and read it, and this is what
you want. But it's far better to let them decide what's important by giving a clear
and concise subject on all your emails.

*** Free Outlook Training ***

Do you need to squeeze more juice out the fruit called Outlook? One of our customers
is offering free Outlook training to help you learn more and be more productive about
all things Outlook (and other Office apps as well).

*** The Best Free Outlook Add-Ins ***

Each newsletter, starting with this one, we'll be covering a few of the most useful
Outlook add-ins that are free.

The first one is an Outlook search tool that we use here called Lookout.
If you aren't using a search tool, this is the one you want; it's a terrific complement
to your Outlook arsenal. It's an Outlook add-in from Microsoft that allows you to
search in all your folders at once, and it's incredibly quick. It's flexible, fast,
and best of all, free. Find out more at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011415261033.aspx. Note that Lookout
is only for Outlook 2002 or higher.

*** How To Upgrade ***

Most changes we make are small and usually involve fixing a problem for a particular
user; usually when we do this the "revision" number is incremented, where the revision
number is the least significant set of digits. There is usually no reason to upgrade
unless the "minor" (or "major") portion of the version number is incremented, when
a feature is added unless you're having a problem.

Nonetheless, many of you have emailed or called asking about how to upgrade. To do so
is simple; just download the newest version from the same location specified in your
order email. Be sure to uninstall the previous version first by going to Control
Panel.Add/Remove Programs then find the add-in and select Remove. Be aware also that
some changes to the add-ins required that you upgrade all your add-ins at the same time.

If you purchased on or after June 1 2004, then your upgrade is free. If you purchased
before that, Sperry Software offers previous customers a 50% off discount. Email us
at [email protected] to get the (web based) discount code.
